I think probably one of the last public-private partnerships that thatll happen, when Troy brought together the city, the county and the state to put together a partnership for a new arena in downtown Milwaukee. The arena was, if the arena didnt happen, nothing happens, and that was a public-private. Well, you got to be beyond on top of your game. "Instantaneously, overnight, we have 30 million people playing NBA 2K around the world, probably more, so we begin a league and we have competition on a global basis. Above me there are my two children, my son, Tyler, my daughter, Courtney. Peter Feigin: Not as much as you'd like to see. Peter: Well, my dad was at Brooklynite so we were Mets and Jets. How do we get the people to try and start the journey to professionalize and really build a gold standard operation. Michael Red: The facilities, everything that you guys have done so far is remarkable. It will host 200 events each year with the Bucks and Marquette men's basketball as anchor attractions. Its like, hey, I worry about the execution. "We had to build a new arena or we were going to move the team. But I think, those are the things that like, yes, you can always pay people. Peter: Start from, yeah, start from the beginning. The Bucks are one of the 17 teams that is competing in the new NBA 2K League, a necessary decision in Feigin's mind. One Thursday night he gave me a call and said, Do you think you can go to Milwaukee and talk to Senator Herb Call. Going back into the past is something I wanted to ask you about. This is COVID, how do we do it? Its really important and youve got to take a real responsibility. In a perfect world, how do we mesh them together to have one and one equal three? My mother was one of the preeminent ad executives from Grey Advertising for 40 years. Talk about that. They're like, "Peter, don't double think anything. John: I dont want to skip over that. So, it's a little bit kind of nuts and delusional to go through thinking like you can kind of accomplish or solve or get anything done, but it's kind of the way I've kind of attacked life in a big way. If you're going to go look at teams, grab my brother. When you show up for the first day, are you pinching yourself? When you are visioning this out, like you just said, human capital, a new physical capital, on the court, off the court, what were you using both singularly as you, as Peter Feigin goes, but also with your partners and the private equity guys, what were you using as your role model? You really need to build equity and build trust especially in the Midwest youve. And a diverse community gives us diverse thought, gives us better outcomes. Peter Feigin: They're like, "Peter, don't double think anything. I guarantee youll find motivation and guidance from this remarkable man. My father happened to pass away probably within a couple months and very close with Mark and Wes, who basically at that time said, Well, you now have to really consider this and do this. And at the time, I always say, I was their last hope because of the timing of the acquisition. And then we kind of sat there until like, "Oh, my God." I've known Jon for, I don't know, 13, 14 years, and to see what he's done with the team as the general manager has been really impressive. Well, you know about the ice cream truck. There's always joking, a lot of joking and the team, the organization from what I've heard and know of you is that they really, really, really appreciate your leadership within the organization. Michael Red: I got my sources. Peter: did active, to get in. Its like winning the life lottery.. And as Marc kind of ventured out over a decade ago . . Peter: Well, its having like Ive always said, people talk about their personal board of directors and what that is and I had the advantage and still have the advantage of my mother being the best consultant you could possibly have. Afterward, a big group heads to City Diner on Broadway for brunch. You got to be someone that actually that enjoys being here and part of the family culture and part of an organization. Feigin got the funding approved in the next couple months, and the Bucks signed a 30-year lease to stay in Milwaukee. You know what I mean? Team president Peter Feigin and his wife each contributed $2,900, while Feigin's brother Daniel contributed $600. We happen to have like the largest kitchen in the state of Wisconsin. John: Oh, my Gosh. With a B? Woodhouse recalled asking him. And how did that all come about? I didn't need to do anything. We are one big family. And I obviously was kind of like I call myself the Division 3 dream. But for us, it's kind of like, "How do we make an equal playing field? I wanted to eat some. You had to kind of build the equity by saying what you're going to do and then doing it. Peter: administration, in aviation, in a $3 billion international aviation company, which was just amazing. It found him. It looks amazing. How do you balance a world and a sports world, especially, thats become so excited about, what Billy Beane created in terms of data analytics and the importance of numbers with the human capital element. I suggested a lot of people who would be great presidents, and lo and behold, none of them worked out to do it, so I think they had to default to me to run the company.". Peter Feigin: I'm not a good example of life balance, because I kind of blend them in such a big way that my kids, my brothers, my mother, my wife, they're all a part of it. We closed our restaurants down. Peter Feigin: I think building the relationship with Mark, probably through looking at other purchase opportunities and kind of talking through it. Peter: it worked in such a great way for me and with a magic wand really evolved into one of the most incredible jobs ever.
